Horses Available LATER

The following horses still need quite a bit of work to get them either healthy enough or easily handleable enough to be adopted.  They will be available for adoption LATER...

**If any qualified homes would be interested in adopting one of these horses still needing work, they would be available for a highly discounted/negotiable adoption fee to the right situation**

Hope

Palomino QH broodmare
Approx. 15.2 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1992?

Hope was originally placed off a slaughter feedlot into a home.  She was pregnant at the time, and it was obvious that she had some trust issues with people.  She ended up having a beautiful, healthy colt...  but their adopters ended up not wanting to keep them so the foal was placed in a great home when he was weaned, and Hope came to us.

She is a good mare at heart, but definitely still has trust issues and can be defensive around people.  She is very slow in letting her guard down and allowing us work with her, but she has made improvements and does well with consistent work.

Lucy is sound and healthy, and we are hoping that with time and training, she could maybe be trained under saddle.

Lucy

Chestnut Quarter Horse cross mare
Approx. 15.1 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1998

Lucy is a cute, very RED chestnut mare who looks to be possibly a Morgan/Quarter Horse cross.  She was rescued off a slaughter feedlot when she kept rushing past us and jumping into our open horse trailer while we were attempting to load a different horse we were rescuing at the time.  It was just too hard to say "no" and leave behind a horse that so obviously wanted to get out of there!  She turned out to be a very sweet mare when we got her back to the rescue,  even though she had some trust and training issues that needed to be worked on.

She was adopted out to a home in January of '07, but was returned to the rescue when her owners ran into unexpected financial problems and couldn't afford to keep her anymore.  When she came back to us, she had some new behavioral issues, as well as a reemergence of problems that we had worked on solving when we first rescued her off the feedlot.

Lucy needs some work again with her trust issues and training issues on the ground and under saddle, but is definitely trainable and just needs some consistent work.

Kaia

Cremello mustang-type pony
Approx. 13.2 hands
Estimated year of birth: 2002

Kaia (and her son Denali) was rescued off a slaughter feedlot in horrid condition. She was extremely emaciated, infested with ticks and lice, and very anemic.  We suspect that she has been abused in the past, or at the very least handled very roughly (as evidenced by the 2 huge homemade "barb wire" brands across her left side).  While we have gotten her somewhat halter trained, she still seems to be emotionally damaged and has trust issues with people.

She still needs A LOT of training, and we don't know if she will ever be able to be trained under saddle or turned into a friendly, people oriented pony.

Forest (aka "Forest Stump")

Black Quarter Horse gelding
Approx. 15.1 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1997

Forest is by far one of the oddest horses out there...  His neck is EXTREMELY short, thanks to what looks like a case of his vertebrae being all kinked up and crooked.  He also has an interesting curve to the canon bones of both hind legs.  Aside from those issues, he is a handsome horse, and a surprisingly nice, fluid mover.

We suspect he is broke to ride, but he has trust issues with people and seems to get some neck and back pain from time to time from knotted muscles (probably caused by his kinked neck).

We are hoping still to get his issues squared away, and see if he can still have a career as a riding horse.
