Trained Horses
Horses that are considered trained to at least an appropriate level for pleasure/trail/arena riding (ie. walk/trot/canter with no real issues), and are ready to go! The level of rider they require may range from beginner to advanced.
Grayson

Gray Quarterhorse Gelding
Approx. 15.3 hands
Estimated Year of Birth:
Grayson is a big, stout gelding with a handsome face and looks that suit both Western AND English riding. He came to us as a horse that had only been ridden Western before, but he looked surprising good tacked up English, as seen in the photos! He rides well, but may need a minor tune-up in a few areas (like standing still for mounting). He is a good boy and would love to go to a home that would take him for lots of trail rides.
Grayson's Adoption Fee: $TBA
'Tune-up' Horses
Horses that definitely have training, but are considered to be 'rusty' and in need of a tune-up to get them going smoothly again. Most will require intermediate to advanced riders, at least at first.
*Please note that adoption fees may increase if/when these horses get more training and are considered to be riding smoothly again!
Nikolai

Bay Thoroughbred/Percheron warmblood gelding
Approx. 17 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1992
Nikolai definitely has had a lot of experince under his belt over the years, as he hot shoes, stands for clipping and bathing, and trailers like a pro. We pulled him off a slaughter feedlot with severely abcessed feet, which took almost a year to completely heal. When he is in good shape (and not looking like a fat little pasture potato after not working for a year), he is stunning and looks very much like an European warmblood of some sort... except for the fact that his big ol' feet give him away as being a draft-cross! He is sound now, and ready to get going under saddle again.
Nikolai's Adoption Fee: $800
Lyra

Sorrel Belgian draft mare
Approx. 15.2+ hands
Estimated Year of Birth: 2001
Lyra is a 'storybook' pretty mare, who rather resembles an overgrown Halflinger. She is broke to ride and drive, but judging from the condition of her hooves when we got her, she probably hadn't been touched much in the last year. She is good for the farrier and has excellent feet now that they are in shape. When we tested her under saddle, she seems to be a bit green, but is pretty quiet (and kinda lazy!) and would probably be a good trail horse with a few more miles and experiences put on her.
Lyra's Adoption Fee: $800
Tenaja Trail

Chestnut Jockey Club Thoroughbred gelding
Approx. 17+ hands
Year of Birth: 1999
Tenaja is a slaughter feedlot rescue who was extremely underweight and unsound when we got him. He piled on the weight quickly at first, but we found him to be afflicted with an intense cribbing habit that kept his weight yo-yoing around for quite some time.
His weight has been steady now for quite awhile, and his soundness issues seem to be resolved, so we are working on readying him for a new home.
Tenaja is definitely broke to ride, but he has had quite a long time off and will probably need a tune-up. We have not ridden him to evaluate his current level training, but will getting to that very shortly.
He has definite damage to various leg joints from years of racing and then competing in jumping, but so far he seems to be sound now for flat work (we keep him on joint supplements to help his overall joint health). His jumping days are probably over, but he could maybe school in Dressage (because boy, is he a gorgeous mover when he gets going!). Or he would be good for pleasure and trail riding.
Tenaja's Adoption Fee: $600
Green Broke/Lightly Started Horses
Horses that have been/are being started under saddle, but are NOT trained. They will require intermediate to advanced riders with training experience.
Riley

Bay pony mare
Approx. 14.1+ hands
Estimated year of birth:
Riley is a bit of a mystery, as we can't really come to a conclusion as to what her breeding is! She may be a Quarter Pony/Paso Fino mix of some sort? Whatever she is, she is a very refined little horse with lots of get-up-and-go to her. We think she would make a great eventing/gymkana/endurance mount for a teen or small adult rider. She has been started under saddle, and now needs to continue her training.
Riley's Adoption Fee: $400
Winter Adoption Special: $250
Meisterhaft
aka Maestro
Bay registered Rheinlamd Pfalz-Saar gelding
Approx. 15 hands
Year of Birth: 2002
Maestro is a very sweet gelding who has a good basic start of walk/trot/and some canter.
He has beautifull movement, and could really excell in dressage with the right person. He requires a calm, confident handler who can bring him along in his training.
Maestro's Adoption Fee: $800
Light/Limited Riding Horses
Horses suitable only for easy, limited riding due to advanced age, soundness, or health issues. The level of rider they require may range from beginner to advanced.
Quincy

Gray Welsh Pony Gelding
Approx. 10 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1987
Quincy is a very distinguished, older gentleman who has packed countless kids around in his lifetime. He is a very gentle boy to lead around, and is safe and quiet under saddle for most children. He is not sound enough for regular, moderate work (at least when kept barefoot) due to having foundered in the past, but he can certainly walk/trot a beginner child around a few days a week. We will be seeing how he does in shoes with pads soon, as that might make him more sound for moderate/regular work. Kept barefoot, he is pasture sound and quite happy.
Quincy is a VERY easy keeper, and requires only grass hay to stay healthy.
Quincy's Adoption Fee: $200
Sampson

Sorrel Belgian gelding
Approx. 17.1+ hands
Estimated year of birth: 1998
Sampson is a handsome Belgian who is practically a small elephant, and has legs the size of tree trunks! He is a big, STOCKY boy!
Sampson is supposedly broke to drive double, and is ridable, although he doesn't seem to have a lot of experience with it. He is willing and friendly though, so he is OK with packing a person around for a bit of a ride. He is a little higher energy than some of his other drafty friends, so he needs a slightly more experienced handler.
Sampson is such a neat horse, and would love to find a good home with a family that loves elephant-sized horses!
Sampson's Adoption Fee: $600
Project Horses
Horses that need more advanced work/handling to address specific training, trust and/or riding issues, as well as older horses (6+) who have not yet been started under saddle.
Gideon

Black Appaloosa/Percheron draft gelding
Approx. 16.1+ hands
Estimated Year of Birth: 2004
This unique boy came to us from a slaughter feedlot, and prior to that was supposedly on a ranch and had been greenbroke to ride. He had some big trust issues when he first arrived, as it was quite obvious he hadn't been touched in a few years. He has made great strides and is a quick learner, but still needs quite a bit of work. Gideon would love to find a human to bond with and continue his training. He is a one-of-a-kind horse, and will definitely get you noticed wherever you go.
Gideon's Adoption Fee: $400
Ruby

Roan Appaloosa mare
Approx. 15 hands
Estimated year of birth: 2004
Ruby is a foundation-bred Appy mare (with papers) who has been a pasture pet her entire life so far. She is ready to start training to become a saddle horse!
Ruby's Adoption Fee: $400
Vienna
Flea bitten gray draft mare (Shire cross)
Appriox. 16+ hands
Estimated year of birth: 1996
Vienna is a pretty, smaller draft mare that is very people friendly and wants to please. She definitely seems to have had some time under saddle in the past, but has a couple of fear issues that she will need work on to get her going comfortably again. For a confident, calm handler with training experience, she would be a great 'diamond in the rough' project with great potential to be a nice pleasure and trail horse in the future.
River
3_a3fe.jpg)
Bay roan Quarter Horse gelding
Approx. 16.0 hands
Estimated year of birth: 1997
River is a handsome Hancock-bred Quarter Horse gelding (we do not have papers) who seems to have had a rough life in the past, and has trust and confidence issues. He is a very gentle soul and tries very hard to please, but he needs a very calm, experienced handler at this point. River is very sensitive to body language and cues, and could definitely be a great natural horsemanship trainer's project horse. He has made great progress is overcoming some of his fears so far, and we feel he is just about ready to start being reintroduced to riding again. He will probably be best suited to light pleasure riding in the future.
River's Adoption Fee: $400
Youngsters
Horses from weanling age to young adult (up to 5 years old) who have NOT been started yet
'Babypants'

Chestnut Appaloosa POA colt
Approx. 9 hands
Date of Birth: April 2011
OK, so 'Babypants' is definitely not a proper name... but this nickname has stuck on him since no other name has seemed to fit him so far! This handsome little devil has been full of himself from the day he was born, so we considered him to be 'too big for his britches', hence the nickname 'Babypants'. He is a fastastically friendly, people-oriented colt, and should mature to the upper 13-hand or lower 14-hand range. He was born to a reservation pony mare that was saved from slaughter when she was just about due to foal.
Babypants has very basic halter training in place, and is ready for a new home just as soon as he gets castrated in the next few weeks!
Babypant's Adoption Fee: $200
Cisco

Chestnut pony gelding
Approx. 14.2 hands
Estimated year of birth: 2006
Cisco wins the award for friendliest horse of the year, as he can just never get enough human attention! He came to us off the slaughter feedlot as an emaciated little stallion, and has proven himself to have an amazing temperment and willingness to learn. He is a handsome little guy, and could potentially be a great kid's pony in a relatively short amount of time, as he is just so quiet! He is truly a great project pony!
Cisco's Adoption Fee: $400
Tegan

Chestnut Appaloosa POA pony mare
Approx. 14.1 hands
Estimated year of birth: 2007
Tegan is a sweet little doll that is very quiet and picks up on new training very quickly. She seems to have topped out in growth around the 14-hand mark, but it looks like she might have been a taller horse had she not been so malnourished when she was younger.
She is sound, young, and ready to start training under saddle.
Tegan's Adoption Fee:$400
Scarlet

Black pony mare
Approx. 14.1+ hands
Year of birth: 2008
Scarlet is a very pretty pony/small horse (perhaps a Quarter pony?) that was rescued from an auction, where she was emaciated and ridden through the auction ring by a 6-plus foot man! Her story said that she was 'trained and ridden by a 12-year old Amish boy, and was very well broke'. Well, we have found that to definitely not be true, and she maybe never even had a person on her back until she was ridden through that auction ring (it would be kind of hard to protest or buck around when you are severely underweight and ridden by someone whose feet could touch the ground!).
Scarlet's Adoption Fee: $400
Gunner

Buckskin Quarter Horse-type colt (gelded)
Approx. 13.1+ hands
Estimated year of birth: 2008
Gunner is a very cute, special colt who was rescued at auction. He is sound and healthy in every way, except for the fact that he is missing an eye. According to auction paperwork, his right eye was lost after he caught it on a tee-post when he was very young. He is very well adjusted to life without it, and is not overly spooky or sensitive on that side of his body.
Gunner is probably only going to mature to about 14 hands. He is solid in build, though, and should be a good size for a small adult rider or larger child. He will be a great project for somebody!
Gunner's Adoption Fee: $300
Companion Horses
Horses that are suitable as pasture pets and companions
Jazzy (High Caliber Girl)

Bay breeding stock Paint mare
Approx. 15.1 hands
Year of birth: 1998
Jazzy is a gorgeous, spunky bay mare with a VERY friendly, sweet temperament. She is very easy to handle on the ground, and would be an EXCELLENT companion horse, or an occasional pleasure riding horse for an experienced rider. She has a slight soundness issue in one of her stifles (from an old soft-tissue injury), and while she is perfectly sound as a pasture pet, she needs slight maintenance if she is to carry a rider.
Jazzy's Adoption Fee: $100
Misc. Horses
Miniatures, donkeys, or other horses that don't really fit into an above category
Eddie

Light dun Mini Mule mare
Approx. 38-40 inches
Estimated Year of Birth: 2001
Eddie is a very unique little creature that can be very entertaining to have around the barnyard! She is a miniature mule, with rather strange (but oddly cute) proportions; from her widely-spaced eyes, big forehead, and underbite, to her big body paired with tiny little legs, she is a one-of-a-kind, for sure.
Eddie is halterbroke and does well for the farrier... once you can catch her! She has the 'naughty mini' attitude, meaning she is not really suitable for kids, but is perfectly handle-able by adults or teens. She can hold her own with bigger horses, and has been a companion for goats and other miniature equines.
Eddie is endlessly entertaining to watch, and while she is not cart trained at this time, she could certainly make a highly amusing little cart mule for someone that wanted to train her.
Eddie's Adoption Fee: $100
